洛桑是瑞士法语区城市，位于莱芒湖北岸，与法国城市埃维昂莱班隔湖相望，北面是汝拉山脉。洛桑位于日内瓦东北约62公里处，是瑞士联邦沃州和洛桑区首府，同时也是大洛桑都会区核心城市、瑞士第四大城市。洛桑与邻近的日内瓦一样，是许多著名的国际组织例如国际奥委会等的总部所在地，因此也称为“奥林匹克之都”。位于洛桑的高等教育院校包括洛桑大学以及自1970年代从该校分拆出来的洛桑联邦理工学院，后者为瑞士两所联邦理工学院之一。另外，洛桑境内的洛桑管理学院亦是知名的研究机构。
