A Jewish citizen has been executed in Iran over a fatal street stabbing amid allegations of anti-Semitism by the Islamic Republic’s courts.

Iran on Monday executed a member of the country's Jewish minority who had been convicted of murder, an NGO said, at a time of rising tensions with Israel.

Jamshid Sharmahd had been accused of helping in a deadly terrorist bombing in 2008. Another Iranian prisoner, the Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi, is in the hospital.

Iran on Monday executed a Jewish citizen convicted of murdering another man in 2022 following a personal dispute, reports said. It was a rare case of an execution of member of a religious minority in the predominately Muslim nation.

Iran has executed a 20-year-old Jewish man who killed a man in a 2022 fight after the victim’s family refused to negotiate an alternative punishment. Arvin Ghahremani, 20, had been scheduled to be executed in May but received a stay after Jewish and human rights groups around the world called attention to his case.
