Rumors have swirled for a few months that Apple is working on a new smart home device that will combine one of the best smart displays with a base containing a speaker. Now, new details have surfaced, and it looks like this device could be very reminiscent of a classic Mac design from over 20 years ago.
Apple Plans to Go Retro With Its New Smart Home Display
The display will allow users to monitor home security cameras, make video calls, check the calendar, and stream media, among other tasks. However, according to Gurman, the primary purpose of the display will be to control various smart home accessories.

Instead, Apple’s first smart display could have a smaller screen the size of “two iPhones side by side” that’s “positioned at an angle on a small base, making it reminiscent of the circular bottom of the iMac G4 from a couple of decades ago,” Gurman writes.
