The tale of Atlantis, first chronicled by Greek philosopher Plato in 360 BC in his works Timaeus and Critias, has captured the imagination of generations, sparking numerous theories and expeditions.
According to Plato's dialogues the Critias and the Timaeus, Solon was also responsible for bringing the Atlantis myth to Greece. He is said to have discovered it while travelling in Egypt.
