网页2004年5月18日 · In my opinion, its a matter of opinion.I'm currently using hemlock because it's stronger, I prefer the appearance, and there is no messy pitch. However, all of my t&g will be white pine. The pine helps to brighten a room and its easier to set the pitch in 8/4 than 8X12. Also the hemlocks on my property are on average larger than my pines.

White pine is a good choice, I have built a few frames out of it, but you need to size/grade your timbers to the load/span and as already been mentioned, it is not as strong as some other choices. When in doubt, build it stout, if your gunna build it, overbuild it.

There are some chemicals that also work somewhat, that is a whole nother discussion. Many large white pine mills do water logs, but a getting lumber immediately into a good dry kiln is very critical.

You will be okay once you mill the logs. The big mills use water from ponds on continuous sprinklers to keep them away. They can also give a nasty bite.
